Understanding AliExpress’s Intellectual Property Enforcement

You've been searching online marketplaces after discovering that your IP protected product and/or product listing has been copied and you have discovered a number of listings on the site AliExpress or it's sister company Alibaba. Your heart sinks. Take a deep breath, we're here to guide you through exactly what you need to do.

The platform that allows you to report potentially infringing listings to both these marketplaces may seem intimidating at first, however once you have cracked the initially complex setup process, the reporting is very straight forward. We have always found this reporting platform to be one of the best at prompt response and reliability. However the set up process can be lengthy so strap yourself in for our step by step guide to removing infringing content from AliExpress or Alibaba.

Steps to File a Complaint on AliExpress’s Platform

Setting up an account and adding your IP on ipp.aidcgroup.net

1.The first thing you need to do to start this process is to register an account with www.aliexpress.com (if you don't already have one). This same password is then used on the takedown platform. You can sign up directly with the takedown platform, however we have always found that the AliExpress log in route to be more reliable.

2. Go to https://ipp.aidcgroup.net/ and sign in. Click on the 'AliExpress Account login' (This is in blue text at the bottom of the login box). Enter your username/email address and password. Click Sign in.

3. You should be greeted with the IP Protection Platform. The first thing you need to do is go is set up you account in 'Account Settings'. Once this is complete go to 'My IPR' on the left hand side of the dashboard.

4.  This is the first step to get set up in the reporting platform - adding your IP to the platform. The platform checks and authorises your documents and then stores them. You will need to add each different type of IP separately and then wait for approval for each. This is the longest part of the process. However once you have all of your IP submitted and checked, the removal process is quite straight forward. The IPR submission page should look like the below screen shot.

The first thing you need to do on this page is choose which IP you are adding. You can only add one at a time, but ultimately you can add as many as you need. For design registrations you will need to click 'Patent' instead of 'Other' - there is then another box on a later page to clarify which type of patent.

5. Add the location of where the IP was originally registered from the drop down menu.

6. Once you have clicked 'next', the following page is your IP certificate and information. You will need to upload you certification and details from it. If you are uploading a patent you will need to click on Patent for Invention. If you uploading a design registration you will need to click Patent for Design.

7. If you have submitted a Trademark, you will then be asked if the trademark has been renewed, reassigned or altered. These are all clickable options.

8. The last stage is entering and uploading your company registration certificate, if you have one. If you don't have one, you will need to use your passport number.

9. Once you submit these documents, your IP will be check and either approved or rejected by the platform. If you documents as rejected you will be told why and you can submit them again. All of this information can be found in your dashboard.

In order to add more IP to your account, you will need to repeat the above steps. This may take some time but once all you IP has been approved, the removal process is easy to manage.

Removing listings on ipp.aidcgroup.net

Once have completed your setup, the takedown process is relatively straight forward.

1. Click on the 'Submit a Complaint' button on the left of the dashboard and click on the marketplace you would like to remove from. You should be greeted by the below page.

2. The first 3 fields of this page are all drop down menus, drawing on the information that we have enter in the first section of this guide.

3. Enter the 'Supplement Infringement Reasons'. This is describing how the product or listing infringes on the IP you have submitted for this case.

4. The next element that needs your attention is the 'Document proof of Infringement'. If you believe the infringement on your IP is clear from the first image or description, then you can probably leave this blank. However if you want to make sure the reviewer understands where the infringement lies, you could always enter a screen shot here.

5. Finally you need to add the URL of the listing in question in the 'Infringing Listings' box and click submit. Hooray, you have done it.

AliExpress normally respond in about 3 days, however some cases can be over night. We have always found them to be very efficient at removing infringing listings. Once the listing has been submitted you may get a counter claim from the seller - this will display in your 'Mange Complaints' button on the left of your dashboard. You will be able to view what has been said (use google lens to help you translate if necessary) and decide on your action. If you believe that the seller doesn't have a valid claim to your IP, you can ask Aliexpress to review the case.

There are a lot of unknowns in the process and the length of the setup time can be a little overwhelming. We can help.
